Maison de l'Air - Village des Éléments
A light-filled sanctuary crowned by a pigeonnier tower.
Maison de l'Air is a two-bedroom house at Village des Éléments, a three-house domain set in 24 hectares of Périgord Pourpre countryside near Naussannes, sleeping up to four guests from 199 euros per night. The three houses were built in 2022, each named for a classical element. This one belongs to air: pale walls, light fabrics, windows set to let the landscape in.
The room that gives the house its character sits upstairs, inside a former pigeonnier, the cylindrical stone dovecote tower traditional to Périgord farmsteads. Original stone walls and an unusual ceiling height frame a king-xl box spring of 180 by 210 cm. Below, the sitting room holds a sofa bed of 160 by 200 cm, so the house settles two in comfort and takes two more without strain. The kitchen was rebuilt in 2023 with a dishwasher, a washing machine and dryer, a Nespresso machine and a four-seat dining table. A heat pump fitted the same year carries the primary heating; air conditioning runs throughout; a wood stove warms the ground floor on cooler evenings. The single bathroom has a walk-in shower with design fixtures. Bathrobes, a pillow menu and a hotel safe complete it.
French doors open onto a private terrace with a Bastard kamado, the Dutch-made ceramic grill built for high heat and long, slow cooks. The heated saltwater swimming pool is shared across the three houses, as is Le Papillon, the on-site beauty salon that takes bookings for massages and facials by arrangement. An optional three-course evening meal can be arranged at 25 euros per person. An EV charging station stands on site.
Issigeac lies approximately 15 minutes' drive away, one of the most complete medieval villages in the Périgord, its circular lanes filling each Sunday with a market that draws producers from across the region. Eymet, an English-founded bastide with an arcaded square and a weekly market, is approximately 25 minutes' drive. Bergerac, the wine capital of its appellation, with an international airport and an old town tied to Edmond Rostand's Cyrano, sits approximately 35 minutes' drive away.

Editor's note
The pigeonnier is the reason to choose this house over its two siblings. The bedroom sits inside a former dovecote tower, a cylinder of old stone that spent its working life as something other than a place to sleep. The walls are original. The ceiling rises higher than a bedroom has any need to. The quiet that settles there comes from age and thick stone rather than from any renovation choice. You feel the building's first purpose before you remember its second.
The scale suits two. It takes four without losing its composure: the sofa bed below absorbs the extra pair while the single bathroom keeps the house honest about its size. The 2023 kitchen and heat pump speak of a place kept for the next decade rather than the next season. Come in September, when the Périgord light steadies and the Issigeac market still carries the last of the summer tomatoes beside the first of the autumn walnuts.
