Périgord Pourpre
Le Mazet
A 1-bedroom cottage in the Périgord Pourpre with a private garden, a wood-burning stove and far-reaching valley views, sleeping two.
Le Mazet is a 1-bedroom stone cottage in the Périgord Pourpre, just outside the bastide villages of Monpazier and Beaumont. Set on its own private garden with far-reaching views across the valley, it sleeps one or two people and works equally well as a romantic retreat or as additional space alongside its neighbour Le Mas.
The cottage is arranged on two floors. The upper ground floor is double-height with quadruple-aspect windows that bring light in from every direction; this is the main living space, with a sitting area built around a wood-burning stove and firewood included through the cooler months. The kitchen is well-equipped including a dishwasher. In the sitting room is a smart TV with English and French tv channels, and a wireless speaker. The downstairs has a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with washing machine. The cottage has an authentic stone-and-beam character, with a calm contemporary interior.
Outside, the garden is your own. Sun loungers, a dining table and chairs, a parasol and a bench facing the sunset are arranged across the space. Even though there is no pool, there are glorious valley views in front and quiet behind. Bakery delivery and prepared meals from a local traiteur can be ordered in.
Bergerac airport is around 35 minutes by car. Monpazier and Beaumont are 10 minutes' drive away, with their weekly markets, cafés and restaurants laid out around the original medieval squares.
Le Mazet is the perfect base from which to explore the best of the Dordogne - there are walking trails on the doorstep, markets, restaurants, brocantes, châteaux, caves and vineyards not far away.

Editor's note
Le Mazet sleeps one or two. Its living room is the argument for coming. It rises to double height, drawing light from all four sides, so the room turns with the day and settles by evening around the wood-burning stove, firewood already stacked. One floor down, a double bedroom with its own bathroom; beyond the windows, a private garden and a valley that carries the eye for miles. Stone and beam overhead, calm and contemporary at hand.
Booked alongside Le Mas, it becomes a household of its own: grandparents, older children or in-laws get their own front door, their own fire and their own corner of garden, with the same valley and the same long Périgord Pourpre evenings shared across both. Taken on its own, it is a week for a couple with a long view, a wood fire and a glass of Bergerac within reach. Monpazier and Beaumont are ten minutes off, Bergerac thirty-five.
