Editor's note
Three generations can take Le Mas and Le Mazet together and still keep their own hours. The neighbouring cottage, Le Mazet, is a second household in full: its own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and garden, so one couple can wake early and read in the quiet while the rest of the family sleeps on across the lawn. By mid-morning everyone has drifted back to the same ground.
That ground is the heated saltwater pool, the gardens laid across 3,000 square metres, the summer kitchen set inside an old tobacco barn where lunch runs into the long Périgord Pourpre afternoon, a game of pétanque under the shade. Six en-suite bedrooms sleep twelve. The 16th-century farmhouse carries its years lightly: thick walls, cool floors, a terrace for every hour of the sun. Bergerac is thirty-five minutes off, Monpazier and Beaumont nearer still, though most days the estate is reason enough to stay put.
