Périgord Pourpre
Le Mas
A storied stone farmhouse for generations to gather.
Le Mas is a 16th-century stone farmhouse in the Périgord Pourpre, sleeping ten guests across five en-suite bedrooms. The house sits at the end of a private country lane 35 minutes from Bergerac and between the bastide villages of Monpazier and Beaumont, with 300 m² of living space surrounded by rolling countryside, orchards and gardens of fruit trees, lavender, jasmine and roses.
Inside, the house keeps its original character: thick stone walls, exposed beams and original fireplaces, balanced with a calm contemporary interior. The family kitchen anchors the main floor, and the spacious living room runs to a wood-burning stove that becomes the gathering place once the evenings cool. Each of the five bedrooms has its own en-suite bathroom, with air-conditioning on the upper floor and an easily accessible bedrooms on the ground floor.
Outdoor life is where the property opens up. The private heated saltwater pool sits in uninterrupted countryside views. The standout space is a covered summer kitchen housed in a beautifully converted barn, the kind of place where dinners stretch into the night under the lights of the old beams. There is a pétanque court, shaded relaxation areas and outdoor games for multi-generational stays. A private chef, bakery delivery and prepared meals from a local traiteur are all available on request.
The house is around 35 minutes by car from Bergerac airport, and 10 minutes' drive from both Monpazier and Beaumont, two of the region's most striking bastide towns, with weekly markets, cafés, restaurants and the medieval architecture they were planned around in the 13th century.

Editor's note
Le Mas wears its four centuries lightly. The stone, the beams and the open fireplaces are original; the kitchen, the bathrooms and the contemporary calm around them are a later, quieter hand. Air-conditioning cools the bedrooms upstairs; a wood-burning stove holds the ground floor through a cool Périgord evening; the 300 square metres carry the steadiness of an old farmhouse kept in good order.
Ten can sleep here, in a house built to let them keep their distance. Five en-suite bedrooms are scattered across it, reached by two staircases and set at opposite ends of the ground floor, so three generations can share a roof and each still close a door. Outside: the heated saltwater pool, a round of pétanque before lunch, the covered summer kitchen in the old tobacco barn where dinner runs long over a glass of Bergerac. Monpazier and Beaumont are ten minutes off, Bergerac thirty-five. Take the neighbouring cottage, Le Mazet, alongside it for up to twelve.
