Périgord Pourpre
Le Chai Villa
A refined villa among the vines, for golden summers.
Le Chai Villa is a luxury 6-bedroom holiday villa in the Dordogne, set among the vineyards of Thénac in the heart of the Périgord Pourpre and just 15 to 20 minutes from Bergerac and its airport. The building is a beautifully restored former wine chai whose long stone silhouette and multi-level terraces were shaped by the Bergerac vineyards that surround it. Inside, the four-star conversion brings a bright open-plan kitchen and dining space, a generous salon that comfortably seats twelve, and six bedrooms with private en-suite bathrooms, finished with luxury linens, mosquito nets, and shuttered windows that frame the vineyard light. An indoor fireplace in the salon makes the villa equally suited to spring and autumn stays.
The villa sleeps up to 12 guests across six bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, plus a seventh independent ground-floor bathroom, an arrangement that is genuinely rare in a Dordogne villa rental at this size. Five of the six bedrooms can be configured as either a superking double or twins, which makes Le Chai Villa unusually adaptable for mixed groups: two families travelling together, three couples plus children, a milestone birthday, or a group of friends where every booking is a different combination. The kitchen is fully equipped for serious cooking (double oven, five-ring gas hob, American fridge with ice and water, dishwasher, full cookware), and the handmade round dining table with its lazy susan is built for long, unhurried meals. A welcome basket, local-wine selection, and pre-arrival grocery stocking can be arranged on request, along with a private chef, in-house massage, and guided château tours.
The grounds run to 5,500 m² and centre on a private heated pool of 10 by 5 metres, fenced for child safety and open from May to October. Sun loungers, an outdoor shower, a gas plancha, a handmade outdoor dining table, a dedicated pétanque pitch, and a full set of pool towels and outdoor furniture sit within landscaped terraces designed around the view. Sigoulès (with its bakery, market, and shops) is ten minutes by car; Bergerac and its airport are 15 to 20; the Sunday market at Issigeac, the bastide of Monpazier, and the wine villages of Monbazillac and Duras are each within a comfortable drive. This is the quieter, less-trodden side of the Dordogne, and Le Chai Villa is one of the most considered places to stay in it. Ideal for multi-generational families, group celebrations, and wine-country touring bases: six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, sleeps 12, four-star classified.

Editor's note
Le Chai Villa keeps the long, low silhouette of the wine chai it once was, its stone now opening onto the Bergerac vineyards of Thénac rather than holding back the harvest. This is the Périgord Pourpre, the quieter side of the Dordogne, where Sigoulès is ten minutes away for bread and Bergerac fifteen to twenty for a flight. The four-star conversion is generous without being showy: a salon that seats twelve around an indoor fire, six bedrooms each with a private bathroom, shuttered windows that ration the vineyard light through a warm afternoon.
What sets the house apart is how readily it bends to whoever fills it. Five of the six rooms shift between a superking and twins, so two families, three couples with children or a birthday party of friends each find their own arrangement. The kitchen is built for real cooking. The handmade round table with its lazy susan is built for the meals that follow, lingered over while someone tends the plancha and the pétanque carries on outside. Beyond the terraces lie 5,500 square metres and a fenced heated pool, the reward for choosing the road less trodden.
