Laurier - Au Coin des Arbres
A gracious family house, together yet free to roam.
Laurier is a 3-bedroom country gîte for five guests at Au Coin des Arbres, a small hamlet of self-catering gîtes set in meadows and woodland on the southern edge of Biron, in the Périgord Pourpre. The lane in is a no-through road, the fields fall away towards open countryside, and the Château de Biron's silhouette rises 2 km north.
The ground floor is one long, open room: a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, and microwave, a dining table that seats five comfortably, and a sitting area built around a wood-burning stove. A separate WC and basin sit off the entry. Upstairs, three bedrooms share a single bathroom with a rain shower and heated towel rails: two zip-and-link doubles (configurable as twins) and a single, set up to flex between five adults, three adults and two children, or a multi-generational mix. Electric radiators back up the woodburner in winter; fans, thick stone walls, and blackout shutters keep the rooms cool in summer.
The rear terrace looks over the meadow, with a Weber BBQ, seating, and the option to merge into Genévrier's terrace through an adjoining door when the two gîtes are taken together. The hamlet's 13m shared infinity pool is open from May to September, with sun loungers, a pool house, and a safety fence; the covered communal dining terrace with built-in BBQ and a fishpond view is where most evenings settle. Bicycles, ping-pong, a board-games library, and a games field for badminton, volleyball, and disc-golf round out the afternoons.
Bergerac airport is a 40-minute drive. The medieval bastide of Monpazier, with its 13th-century arcaded square and Thursday morning market, is a 10-minute drive; the Château de Biron itself sits 2 km along a wooded path, reachable as a 30-minute walk. The Dordogne valley, its canoeing rivers, vineyards, and prehistoric caves, opens up within an hour.

Editor's note
Laurier is a house for families who want their days to overlap. The ground floor is a single long room built around a wood-burning stove. The bedrooms upstairs flex from five adults to a multi-generational tangle of children, while the rear terrace opens through an adjoining door into Genévrier's own when the two gîtes are taken together. This is somewhere a wider party can spread out without losing each other: the cousins in the games field, the grandparents on the loungers by the 13m pool, everyone reconvening at the covered dining terrace where most evenings settle.
It sits in the Périgord Pourpre on the southern edge of Biron, at the end of a no-through lane where the fields fall away towards open country and the Château de Biron's silhouette rises 2 km north. The château is a thirty-minute walk along a wooded path; Monpazier and its 13th-century arcaded square keep the Thursday market ten minutes off. The hamlet does the steady work of a good country base: bicycles, ping-pong, a board-games library, thick stone walls and blackout shutters that hold the heat at bay. What you remember is the quiet of the meadow at the terrace edge, the way the house lets a family be both together and apart.
